Baseball Recap: Boonville Gets the Win

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Boonville and Southridge, and Boonville kept the tradition alive. The Pioneers had just enough and edged out the Raiders 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since April 28th.

Charlie Campbell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Boonville is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-12 otherwise. Campbell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grant Davis, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April. Carson Tate also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Boonville's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Southridge, they dropped their record down to 13-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Boonville will be taking part in a tournament against Vincennes Lincoln at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Alices have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. Southridge has already played their next contest (against Northeast Dubois), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
