Basketball Recap: Higley Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Higley had no trouble coming through when it counted. They escaped with a win on Thursday against the Cesar Chavez Champions by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 64-22 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Higley found their leader in sophomore Cadence Murdough, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards. Murdough is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 15 games she's played. Ava Haney was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

Higley was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They are 16-7 when they've passed the ball that well.

Cesar Chavez's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Victoria Ballard, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lakeisha Robinson, who posted six points and 11 rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Higley and bumps their season record up to 17-11. As for Cesar Chavez, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-7.

Higley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-37 loss against Gilbert on the 1st. Cesar Chavez does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
