Football Recap: Maple River Takes a Loss

Maple River lost a heartbreaker to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown when they met back in October of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Eagles took a blow against the Buccaneers, falling 36-8. The Eagles were red-hot offensively heading into the game (they scored no less than 31 points in the three matchups prior), but the Buccaneers' defense proved too tough.

The defeat snapped Maple River's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. As for Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Maple River will challenge Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Blooming Prairie at 7:00 p.m.
