Softball Recap: Woonsocket Comes Up Short

Woonsocket extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-12. They lost 18-0 to the Barrington Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Villa Novans of the 16-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Barrington, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6-1 record this season. The result was nothing new for Barrington, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Barrington's part, Audrey Paxton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Paxton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Grace Fontaine was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Cora Floriani, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woonsocket will welcome Paul Cuffee at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Paul Cuffee has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.2 runs per game on average), something Woonsocket will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Barrington, they will host East Greenwich at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Avengers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
