Basketball Recap: Ceres Extends Winning Streak to Six

Ceres waltzed into their matchup on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They enjoyed a cozy 51-36 victory over the Lathrop Spartans. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 284th, while the Spartans are ranked 673rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lilly Staggs was her usual excellent self, putting up 25 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sovannary Carter, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Lathrop's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Belinda Renteria, who posted six points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Shakara Porter, who put up three points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Ceres pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for Lathrop, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-14.

Ceres wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-55 defeat against Pacheco on the 4th. As for Lathrop, they have also already played their next contest, a 43-14 victory against Johansen on the 4th.
