Pueblo Centennial is 7-1 against Canon City since August of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Tigers at 9:00 a.m. Pueblo Centennial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Pueblo Centennial came up short against Air Academy and fell 12-8.
Olivia Aragon was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Aragon was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Aragon wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Remi Baca, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Canon City can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Woodland Park 11-1.
Like Pueblo Centennial, Canon City also got a great game from a two-way player: Khloe Weise. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Weise was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cammi Leis and Taylor Hand did most of the damage at the plate: Leis got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Hand went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Leis has posted since back in September.
Canon City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in three consecutive games.
Pueblo Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Canon City, their record now sits at 8-14.
Canon City's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Pueblo Centennial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Canon City, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 strikeouts. Will Pueblo Centennial keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
Everything went Pueblo Centennial's way against Canon City when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Pueblo Centennial made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
