Softball Recap: Holyoke Comes Up Short

Holyoke extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Forge Christian Fury, falling 15-0. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 13-1 to the Fury when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Forge Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The result was nothing new for the Fury, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Forge Christian's part, Julianna Alfaro made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Alfaro has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Honor Kuyper was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Rio Beck, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Holyoke will face off against Burlington at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Forge Christian, they will take on Mullen at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fury's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 15 runs per game this season.
