Football Game Preview: Central Heights Vikings vs. Council Grove Braves

Central Heights is 0-7 against Council Grove since October of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Braves at 7:00 p.m. Council Grove took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Central Heights, who comes in off a win.

Central Heights is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 40-18 margin over West Franklin on Friday. With the Vikings ahead 22-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Central Heights relied on the efforts of Gage Peine, who rushed for 141 yards and one score on only ten carries, and Chase Bones, who threw for 119 yards and a pair of TDs. With that strong performance, Peine is now averaging an impressive 102 rushing yards per game.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central Heights was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Central Heights' defense and their three sacks. Graham Higbie was especially locked on to West Franklin's QB and sacked him twice.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Council Grove's offense. They were dealt a 43-0 defeat at the hands of Osage City on Friday. The loss was the Braves' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Council Grove fell to 4-1. As for Central Heights, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Central Heights took a serious blow against Council Grove in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 58-0. Thankfully for the Vikings, Cade Goodell (who rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 48 receiving yards and one score) won't be suiting up this time.
