Basketball Recap: Abby Calarco's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Berwick over Wyoming Valley West

Berwick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 46-39 to the Wyoming Valley West Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while the Spartans are ranked 218th).

Berwick lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Abby Calarco, who posted ten points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Carly Post, who scored 15 points.

Berwick's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Wyoming Valley West, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berwick will host Hazleton Area at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Hazleton Area knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matches -- so hopefully Berwick likes a good challenge. As for Wyoming Valley West, they will be playing at home against Pittston at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
