Basketball Recap: Triton Hawks vs. Western Harnett Eagles
Triton fought the good fight in their overtime match against Western Harnett on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Western Harnett Eagles 67-62. The Hawks were up 44-28 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the loss, Triton still got an impressive performance from Nashara McNeil-Watlington, who went 13 for 24 to rack up 32 points along with eight boards and five assists. That's the most points McNeil-Watlington has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Ja'Niah Smith, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven assists and four steals.
McNeil-Watlington wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Triton was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Harnett only posted three assists.
Western Harnett found their leader in freshman Tamara Hayes, who went 9 for 22 en route to 34 points. Those 34 points set a new season-high mark for Hayes. The team also got some help courtesy of Ta'Ziyah Elliott, who had ten points and eight rebounds.
Triton is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13. As for Western Harnett, their record now sits at 5-14.
Triton has already played their next contest, a 55-43 loss against Pine Forest on the 4th. As for Western Harnett, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-33 defeat against E.E. Smith on the 4th.
