Softball Game Preview: Denver South Ravens vs. Denver North Vikings

Denver South is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Denver North is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Ravens will host the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Denver South will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Rangeview on Tuesday. The Ravens were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Denver North hadn't done well against George Washington recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Vikings blew past the Patriots 15-4.

Xavia Escobedo was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Sophia Guerrero was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Elina Gutierrez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Denver North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 21 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Denver North's victory bumped their record up to 15-2. As for Denver South, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.
