Football Recap: Platteview Starts Season with Win on the Road

Platteview had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Crete Cardinals 30-27. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

A big part of Platteview's win came down to the chemistry between Logan Grosdidier and his top target Owen Trofholz. Grosdidier rushed for 64 yards and one score while Trofholz picked up 127 receiving yards and one touchdown. Platteview also relied on Grosdidier, who's 50-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game. Ethan Nelson did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and three extra points.

Platteview didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Crete to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Chris George, Oakley Osborn, and Landon Nelson, who each logged one passes deflected. Platteview hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.37 or higher in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Platteview, adding 12 points to the final score. All came from Nelson: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 3-for-3 again kicking extra points for an additional three.

Crete lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Peyton Steuer, who picked up 228 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. He was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 53 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Haansh Patel, who gained 39 total yards and three touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Platteview will square off against Lexington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Crete, they will take on Beatrice on Friday.
