Soccer Recap: Ellet Comes Up Short

If Ellet was riding high fresh off their 5-1 takedown of Coventry on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Orangemen fell just short of the Firestone Falcons by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. Ellet fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Firestone since Saturday.

Samwel Matendo wasn't going to let Firestone walk away unscathed as he scored both of Ellet's goals, bringing his season total up to five goals.

Ellet now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Firestone, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ellet will venture away from home to square off against Bedford at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Ellet will be up against Bedford's rather soft defense (which has allowed 2.75 goals per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Firestone, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Washington at 5:00 p.m. on September 4.
