Preview: Wylie Pirates vs. Sachse Mustangs

Two dominant signal callers in Jagger Bale and Brenden George are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wylie Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sachse Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Wylie's game was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Naaman Forest by a score of 21-14. The victory was just what Wylie needed coming off of a 66-10 defeat in their prior match.

Wylie's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Joshua Ausborne, who rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, and Bale, who threw for 199 yards and a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wylie's defense and their five sacks. Naaman Forest's QB won't forget Harrison Vicic anytime soon given Vicic sacked him five times.

Meanwhile, Sachse came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by South Garland at home to the tune of 49-14. The result was nothing new for Sachse, who have now won five contests by 24 points or more so far this season.

Brendon Haygood and George were among the main playmakers for Sachse as the former gained 150 total yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Haygood's longest reception was for an incredible 94 yards.

Wylie's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Sachse, their win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2.

Wylie came out on top in a nail-biter against Sachse in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, sneaking past 19-17. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Sachse's Prosper Akanna, who rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Wylie to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
