Basketball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

After flying high against Wheatland last Friday, Lincoln came back down to earth. The Lincoln Fighting Zebras fell 40-29 to the Marysville Indians on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-48 back in January.

Despite the loss, Lincoln saw an underclassman step up: freshman TAYLOR BUTLER posted 12 points along with seven boards and three blocks. BUTLER is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Marysville was led to victory by Demi Boykin and Abigail Pietz. Boykin scored 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists, while Pietz earned 14 points and four steals. Folaiula Sagapolutele was another key player, putting up three points.

Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Marysville, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Lincoln wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-17 win against Center on the 14th. As for Marysville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-35 victory against Wheatland on the 14th.
