Basketball Game Preview: Archbishop Bergan Knights vs. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears

The Archbishop Bergan Knights will challenge the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Archbishop Bergan will be strutting in after a victory while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will be coming in after a loss.

Archbishop Bergan is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Osceola with a sharp 62-42 win on Saturday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their 15-point performance the contest before.

Archbishop Bergan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mia Cortes, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven assists and six steals. Those seven assists gave Cortes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Langhorst, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Cortes wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Archbishop Bergan was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge didn't have quite enough to beat Pierce on Monday and fell 53-51. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Bluejays: they've now lost four in a row.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Archbishop Bergan, they moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Archbishop Bergan beat Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 39-28 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Does Archbishop Bergan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Laurel-Concord-Coleridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
