Recap: Mayer Wildcats vs. North Valley Christian Academy Lions
After flying high against the Music Mountain Warriors last Tuesday, the Mayer Wildcats came back down to earth. Mayer was beaten by North Valley Christian Academy 62-28 on Monday. Mayer has not had much luck with North Valley Christian Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Mayer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Danni McCann. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 89.3% of Mayer's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Valley Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abby Rice, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 22 rebounds. Rice is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played. Kalina Santor was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with four steals.
Mayer now has a losing record at 10-11-1. As for North Valley Christian Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-11.
Mayer will head out on the road to square off against Bagdad at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bagdad's defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so Mayer's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for North Valley Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against Chandler Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Chandler Prep is ranked 205th, while North Valley Christian Academy is ranked 226th).
