Soccer Game Preview: West vs. Monterey Trail

The West Wolfpack will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Monterey Trail Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. West's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Last Saturday, West came up short against Valley Christian and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, the Wolfpack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 507th, while the Warriors are ranked 68th).

Meanwhile, Monterey Trail came up short against Pleasant Grove on Friday, falling 4-1. The Mustangs have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Monterey Trail's goal came courtesy of Isabella Barrientos, who's now up to eight this season.

West's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-3. As for Monterey Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3-3.

West took their victory against Monterey Trail in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for West since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
