Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Kennedy Catholic

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Kennedy Catholic had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They strolled past the Eisenhower Knights with points to spare, taking the game 57-42. Given Kennedy Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Eisenhower is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Layke Fields was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 31 points and 18 rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 47% in the last 36 games she's played dating back to last season. Tori Harvey was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Kennedy Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They posted six more assists than Eisenhower's also-impressive total of ten.

Eisenhower's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clara Steinberg, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 17 points. That was a full 40.5% of Eisenhower's points, marking the 22nd time in a row Steinberg has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Laney Belcher, who earned nine points.

The victory (which was Kennedy Catholic's fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-5. As for Eisenhower, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-7.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Kennedy Catholic will take on Lakeview at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lakeview has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Eisenhower, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilmington at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eisenhower is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
