Baseball Game Preview: Sturgeon Bay Clippers vs. Oconto Blue Devils

Sturgeon Bay and Oconto are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Clippers will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oconto took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Sturgeon Bay, who comes in off a win.

If Sturgeon Bay beats Oconto with 11 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Clippers walked away with an 11-7 victory over Lena on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Clippers.

Matty Hartl made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Sturgeon Bay's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't). Hartl was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jack Higginbotham was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Drew Propsom, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Oconto suffered their biggest defeat since May 12, 2025 on Friday. They lost 14-6 to Chilton.

Sturgeon Bay's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Oconto, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.
