Basketball Recap: Marquez Drops Highest Score of Season Against Torres

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marquez). They blew past the Torres Toros 63-18 on Thursday. Marquez's win was all the more impressive since the Toros were averaging only 28.9 points allowed on the season.

Corshell Vaughn continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 14 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 31 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Magaly Gonzalez, who went 8 for 16 en route to 16 points along with eight boards and five steals.

Marquez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Marquez's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.3 points per game. As for Torres, they moved to 6-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marquez has already played their next contest (against Maywood CES), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Torres will take on Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Torres is facing Elizabeth at the right time seeing as Elizabeth is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
