Basketball Recap: Audrey Pacheco Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Downey

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Atwater, Gregori was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-34 win over the Downey Knights. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 50-41 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Gregori's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Audrey Pacheco led the charge by going 6 of 10 en route to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Pacheco a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Tran, who posted ten points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Gregori smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Downey still got an impressive performance from Joslyn Sheppard, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Sheppard is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Zadie Carraway was another key player, putting up five points and 13 boards.

Gregori now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Downey, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Gregori wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-27 win against Turlock on the 16th. Downey has also already played their next contest, a 39-27 defeat against Pitman on the 16th.
