Recap: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. Irvington Vikings
The Newark Memorial Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Irvington 55-24. While losing is never fun, Newark Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 883rd, while Irvington is ranked 254th).
Despite the loss, Newark Memorial still got an impressive performance from Juliana Barbosa, who scored seven points.
Newark Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Irvington, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark Memorial is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Kennedy at 4:30 p.m. on January 9th. Kennedy is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Irvington won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Livermore at 3:00 p.m. on January 6th.
