Basketball Recap: Mallorie Kellum Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southwest EC

Holtville won the last time they faced Southwest EC and things went their way on Friday too. The Holtville Vikings snuck past the Southwest EC Eagles with a 33-28 victory.

Holtville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mallorie Kellum, who posted 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Kellum is becoming a predictor of Holtville's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 6-16 when she doesn't). Kadence Toten was another key player, putting up five points in addition to 17 boards and eight blocks.

Holtville's victory bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Southwest EC, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 16 of their last 17 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-24 record this season.
