Baseball Game Preview: Elwood Panthers vs. Frankton Eagles

Elwood is 1-9 against Frankton since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Panthers will challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Elwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Elwood turned things around against Daleville on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Broncos with a sharp 14-3 win. The Panthers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16th (when they won 23-2).

Zaine Wright was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Elwood: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bentlee Pierce, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Elwood's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 4-15 when he doesn't).

Elwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Frankton suffered their closest loss since May 4th on Thursday. They fell just short of Maconaquah by a score of 4-2.

Frankton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Elwood's record is now 8-17. As for Frankton, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
