Baseball Recap: Citizens Christian Academy Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

The Citizens Christian Academy Patriots were able to grind out a solid win over Varsity Opponent on Friday, taking the game 8-4.

Gray McLean made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

McLean wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Blake Bryant, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Another was Jonathan Rutland, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Citizens Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Citizens Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5-1 record this season.

Citizens Christian Academy will face off against St. Francis at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Varsity Opponent, they will take on San Angelo HomeSchool in a tournament on Friday. The Saints have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something Varsity Opponent will no doubt try to take advantage of.
