Basketball Recap: Loyalton Comes Up Short

Loyalton lost against Portola back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Loyalton Grizzlies took a 41-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Portola Tigers. The Grizzlies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Loyalton lost, don't look at Catherine Petterson. Despite the final result, she posted eight points along with five boards and four blocks. Petterson is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Josie Petterson was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Loyalton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Loyalton now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Portola, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Loyalton will take on Hayfork in a holiday battle at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Portola, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 29-23 defeat against Quincy on the 14th.
