Soccer Game Preview: Maquoketa vs. West Burlington

The Maquoketa Cardinals will head out to challenge the West Burlington Falcons on Thursday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Maquoketa proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a goal and slipped past Central DeWitt 2-1.

Meanwhile, West Burlington had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Knights. That's two games straight that West Burlington have won by just one goal.

West Burlington's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those four contests. As for Maquoketa, their win bumped their record up to 12-3-2.
