Basketball Recap: Martin County Comes Up Short

Martin County suffered their biggest defeat since January 23, 2024 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by the Grandview Prep Pride and fell 78-46. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Pride are ranked fourth).

Martin County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karolina Ramirez, who posted 15 points. Ramirez is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Pire, who scored ten points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Martin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

With the defeat, Martin County broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-6. As for Grandview Prep, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.

Martin County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-13 win against South Fork on the 31st. As for Grandview Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 96-34 victory against American Heritage on the 31st.
