Baseball Recap: Malvern Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Aquinas, Malvern was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Wellsville Tigers with a sharp 11-1 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Jaxon Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Darnell Jackson was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Malvern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Wade Barkley, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Malvern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Malvern's record now sits at 8-15. As for Wellsville, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Malvern beat the Tigers by a score of 17-3 later that day.
