Basketball Game Preview: Weston Ranch Cougars vs. Wood Wildcats

Two dominant centers in Lila Harper and Amiyah Murry are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Weston Ranch Cougars just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Wood Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Weston Ranch is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Calaveras on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Weston Ranch lost 58-32 to Calaveras. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1004th, while the Red Hawks are ranked 439th).

Meanwhile, Wood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 40-35 to Vintage. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Weston Ranch will need focus on slowing down Mikyah Dixon, one of several Wood players who made an impact when they last played. She posted six points in addition to nine boards and five steals. That's the most steals Dixon has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Murry, who had ten points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Wood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Wood now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Weston Ranch, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Weston Ranch came up short against Wood in their previous meeting on Friday, falling 34-22. Can Weston Ranch avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
