Baseball Game Preview: St. John's Prep Eagles vs. Central Catholic Raiders

The St. John's Prep Eagles will head out to challenge the Central Catholic Raiders at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. Neither St. John's Prep nor Central Catholic posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

It was a Battle of the Birds when St. John's Prep faced off against Xaverian Brothers on Friday. The Eagles never let the Hawks get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Hawks on their field since April 12, 2023.

Meanwhile, Central Catholic suffered their closest defeat since May 13, 2025 on Friday. They fell just short of Londonderry by a score of 4-2.

Jake Kowalski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April.

At the plate, Central Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Hayes, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

St. John's Prep is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
