Basketball Recap: Bristow Takes a Loss

Bristow and Bethany squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Bristow had to settle for second. They came up short against the Bethany Bronchos, falling 63-40. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Bronchos are ranked 82nd).

Despite the defeat, Bristow saw an underclassman step up: freshman Brian Hopgood. Jr. dropped a double-double with 24 points and 13 boards. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for Hopgood. Jr.

Even though they lost, Bristow smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Bristow has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for Bethany and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

As of now, neither Bristow nor Bethany have any future games scheduled.
