Basketball Recap: Esparto Takes a Loss

Esparto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 47-9 loss at the hands of the Westlake Charter Explorers . Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-5 back in December of 2024.

Westlake Charter was led to victory by Chigozie Igwegbe and Amiliana Moore. Igwegbe went 9 for 15 en route to 20 points in addition to six boards and six steals, while Moore dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Those 20 points gave Igwegbe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mika Binger, who posted three points and seven steals.

Esparto's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Westlake Charter, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

Esparto will head out to challenge Elite at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Esparto is facing Elite at the right time seeing as Elite is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Westlake Charter, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-24 victory against John Adams Academy - El Dorado Hills on the 24th.
