Football Game Preview: Mill Valley Jaguars vs. Shawnee Mission North Bison

The Mill Valley Jaguars will challenge the Shawnee Mission North Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mill Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Shawnee Mission North likes a good challenge.

Mill Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Olathe Northwest 63-28. With the Jaguars ahead 35-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Max Piva produced another solid effort rushing for 404 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 17.6 yards per carry, and also catching one TD. Those 404 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Blake Jay was another key player, rushing for 128 yards and three scores on only eight carries.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Shawnee Mission North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They pulled ahead with a 29-28 photo finish over Lawrence. The win almost wasn't to be: the Bison were down 14-0 in the second quarter.

Mill Valley better keep an eye on Michael Lafosse. He was instrumental in Shawnee Mission North's win, rushing for 56 yards and one TD on only five carries.

Shawnee Mission North was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Mill Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. Shawnee Mission North's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6.

Everything came up roses for Mill Valley against Shawnee Mission North when the teams last played back in October of 2021, as the squad secured a 55-0 victory. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Bison have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
