Hammond hasn't had much luck against Slidell recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tornadoes will head out to square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Hammond's defense has only allowed 11 points per game this season, so Slidell's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Hammond is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past L.W. Higgins to the tune of 49-0 on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tornadoes' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 252nd).

Hammond's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Terin Jones, who rushed for 63 yards and two TDs, and Zalen Bennett, who rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in passer rating (156.3). Reginald Monroe also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hammond was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 198 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
Hammond didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nicholas Wilson and Cardae Warford. Hammond got some further help from Elontae Beauchamp: he picked up 3.5 sacks and made four total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Slidell, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down Mandeville 28-14 on Friday. The Tigers pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Skippers cut but never quite recovered from.
Slidell's win came from a few key players Hammond will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Wilbert Ricky Williams, who threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 66 yards and one score. Jakwan Jones was another key player, rushing for 208 yards.
Slidell pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 31.0 points this season. As for Hammond, their record is now 3-1.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Hammond has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 171.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Slidell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 234.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Hammond against Slidell in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-13 victory. In that contest, the Tornadoes amassed a halftime lead of 35-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
