Basketball Game Preview: Amherst Broncos vs. Gothenburg Swedes

The Amherst Broncos will take on the Gothenburg Swedes in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Amherst will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Amherst is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Axtell: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Broncos blew the Wildcats out of the water with a 77-31 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-18.

Amherst got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Addy Simmons out in front who posted 24 points. Those 24 points gave Simmons a new career-high. Libby Mitchell was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Meanwhile, Gothenburg was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 65-61 to East. The matchup marked the Swedes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Gothenburg fell to 4-1. As for Amherst, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Amherst was taken down by Gothenburg 63-21 when the teams last played back in January. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
