Basketball Game Preview: McLane Highlanders vs. Sunnyside Wildcats

McLane hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The McLane Highlanders will welcome the Sunnyside Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. McLane has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Saturday, McLane didn't have too much trouble with Minarets as they won 52-33.

McLane's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Christine Sayaseng, who posted 14 points, and Kamila Hernandez, who put up ten points. The dominant performance gave Sayaseng a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariya Sanchez, who had six points.

Meanwhile, Sunnyside posted their biggest win since November 26, 2024 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Fowler as Sunnyside made off with a 49-29 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Wildcats just coasted through the last quarter.

McLane now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Sunnyside, their win bumped their record up to 4-11.

McLane was able to grind out a solid victory over Sunnyside in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 51-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sunnyside's Ruby Cartwright, who posted 26 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
