Soccer Game Preview: Springfield vs. Fairmont

The Springfield Wildcats will face off against the Fairmont Firebirds at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Springfield is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Memorial on Saturday. The Wildcats came up short against the Roughriders, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, Springfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio soccer rankings (they are ranked 289th, while Memorial are ranked 104th).

Meanwhile, Fairmont had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 goals) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-2 win over the Fighting Crusaders.

Fairmont's victory bumped their record up to 9-2-1. As for Springfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
