Basketball Game Preview: Verdugo Hills Dons vs. Trinity Classical Academy Knights

Verdugo Hills is 0-4 against Trinity Classical Academy since December of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Verdugo Hills Dons will head out to square off against the Trinity Classical Academy Knights at 7:00 p.m. Verdugo Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.

Verdugo Hills is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since November 21, 2024 on Monday. They came up short against Valencia, falling 73-47. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Vikings are ranked 60th).

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Amiyya Castanos and Cara McKell. McKell had a great game and dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. Meanwhile, Castanos did her best for the losing side, putting up 11 points.

Meanwhile, Trinity Classical Academy had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They blew past the Griffins, posting a 75-20 win. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 29 points or more this season.

Trinity Classical Academy pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.3 points per game. As for Verdugo Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Verdugo Hills took a serious blow against Trinity Classical Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 62-35. Can Verdugo Hills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
