Basketball Recap: Leuzinger Piles Up the Points Against Fillmore

Leuzinger was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Fillmore on Friday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 66-21 stomp they got against the Fillmore Flashes. That 45 point margin sets a new team best for the Olympians this season.

Leuzinger's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Ike led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Those 21 points gave Ike a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatyana Aubry, who went 8 of 20 on her way to 17 points along with five assists and five steals.

Leuzinger was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Fillmore saw an underclassman step up: freshman Hermelinda Ocegueda posted seven points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Yaneli Landin, who had three points and six rebounds.

With the victory, Leuzinger broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-8. As for Fillmore, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Leuzinger and University will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Leuzinger is facing University at the right time seeing as University is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fillmore, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Taft at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fillmore will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Taft will have lost three straight heading into Saturday's contest.
