Football Recap: St. Marys Comes Up Short

The matchup between St. Marys and Osage City on Friday hardly resembled the 14-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Bears were outmatched by the Indians and fell 49-14. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, St. Marys still got an impressive performance from Kanon Vansickle, who picked up 98 receiving yards and one TD. Vansickle also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending one pass.

Osage City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reed Silver led the charge by throwing for 136 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also picking up 41 receiving yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Silver racked up 161.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Quenten Stark was in the mix as well, providing Osage City with three TDs.

St. Marys' loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Osage City, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

Coming up, St. Marys will welcome Council Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Osage City, they will venture away from home to square off against Silver Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 871 yards in their previous games.
