Preview: Sayre Redskins vs. Williamson Warriors

The Sayre Redskins will head out on the road to face off against the Williamson Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Sayre has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while Williamson will arrive with six straight wins.

On Tuesday, Sayre had to suffer through a rough 48-17 loss at the hands of Northeast Bradford. Sayre was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.

Despite the loss, Sayre had strong showings from Abbie McGaughey, who scored seven points along with three blocks, and Meghan Flynn, who scored a points. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for her.

Meanwhile, Williamson earned a 47-37 win over Towanda on Thursday. Given Williamson's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Towanda is ranked 345th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Williamson relied on the efforts of Taylor Rae Jones, who scored 17 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, and Kenna Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Jones' sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Sayre's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for Williamson, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.

Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Sayre have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 18.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Williamson, though, as they've been averaging only 37.2 rebounds per game. Given Sayre's sizeable advantage in that area, Williamson will need to find a way to close that gap.

Sayre ended up a good deal behind Williamson in their previous meeting back in January, losing 42-27. Can Sayre avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
