Baseball Recap: Lyons Triumphs

York typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Lyons proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Dukes. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Dukes on Wednesday, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Tommy Cavaliere spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nicholas Hines was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lon Roberts, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Lyons' win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for York, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lyons will welcome Downers Grove South at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for York, they will challenge Huntley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
