Preview: Oroville Tigers vs. Sutter Huskies
The Oroville Tigers will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Sutter Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Oroville comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Oroville, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 37-23 loss to Alhambra. While losing is never fun, Oroville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 945th, while Alhambra is ranked 395th).
Oroville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ayianna Herrera, who scored 6 points along with 4 steals, and Lili Kelemen who scored 8 points.
Meanwhile, Sutter came up short against Colusa on Saturday and fell 43-33. Sutter has struggled against Colusa recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Sutter might have lost, but man, Torrence Harter was a machine: she almost dropped a triple-double on 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 steals. The matchup was Harter's third in a row with at least ten points. Sydney Meagher was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
The losses dropped Oroville to 0-4 and Alhambra to 3-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Oroville have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sutter struggles in that department as they've been even better at 36 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Oroville came up short against Sutter when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 42-34. Can Oroville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
