Baseball Recap: Plainwell Triumphs

While Plainwell's victory against Thornapple Kellogg wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Plainwell narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Thornapple Kellogg 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Plainwell has posted since March 30th.

Andrew Hampton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Plainwell is 5-2 when Hampton posts two or more runs, but 10-11-1 otherwise.

Hampton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brady Howard, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Plainwell's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-13-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Thornapple Kellogg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-22.
