Baseball Game Preview: Holy Spirit Prep Cougars vs. St. Mary's Academy Bobcats

Holy Spirit Prep is a perfect 3-0 against St. Mary's Academy since February of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. Holy Spirit Prep will be strutting in after a victory while St. Mary's Academy will be coming in after a loss.

Holy Spirit Prep took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Heritage, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hawks on Wednesday, sneaking past 8-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Andrew Wingate was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Christian Harrison was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Anthony Lombardi was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's Academy lost 11-1 to Rock Springs Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

St. Mary's Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Holy Spirit Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Holy Spirit Prep took their win against St. Mary's Academy when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
