Basketball Recap: Parlier Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

After losing to Farmersville the last time they met, Parlier decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Parlier Panthers walked away with a 46-39 win over the Farmersville Aztecs on Saturday. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Aztecs are ranked 913th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Farmersville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janessa Garza, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Garza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylie Tassey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Parlier and bumps their season record up to 14-3. As for Farmersville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Parlier didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-21 win against Liberty on the 14th. As for Farmersville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-32 loss against Summit Charter Collegiate Academy on the 13th.
