Weddington extended their postseason success on Friday against Independence. They took down the Patriots 21-6. The win was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won 11 contests in a row.

Weddington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brody Anson led the charge by rushing for 137 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Anson has posted since back in August of 2024. Kelson Tate was another key player, rushing for 49 yards and one touchdown.

Weddington's run defense was locked in: Independence could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. While two picked up at least 11 total tackles, Aiden Harris stood above the rest. He made 11 total tackles and defended one pass. Weddington hasn't allowed more than 5.9 yards per carry in five consecutive matchups.

Weddington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as KD Cotton, Jon Manley, and TJ Davis picked up one apiece. Harris was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles and defending one pass.

Weddington's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Independence, they moved to 10-3 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Weddington is taking a road trip to face off against Grimsley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Warriors 6.8, the Whirlies 11.9) so any points scored will be well earned. Independence does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
