Mellen had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their game on Monday with ease, bagging a 65-21 victory over the Northwood Evergreens. That's more bragging rights for the Granite Diggers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Looking ahead, Mellen is taking a road trip to face off against Butternut at 5:45 p.m. on the 9th. The matchup will give the Granite Diggers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Northwood, they will be playing at home against South Shore at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
